Ambassador Program
Ambassadors represent their countries, lead national teams, and participate in global-level conversations and dialogues.

What is an Ambassador?
Ambassadors are the global representatives of the International Youth Council on Gender Equality (IYCGE), serving as the primary link between their country’s national team and the broader international council. They represent their national context, priorities, and perspectives, ensuring that regional voices are meaningfully reflected in global discussions and decision-making processes.

Ambassadors are responsible for overseeing and compiling national research initiatives, guiding the direction and quality of policy-oriented analysis, and coordinating the work of their national teams of fellows. They provide leadership, structure, and strategic oversight, ensuring that research outputs align with IYCGE’s objectives and contribute constructively to international dialogue.

In addition, ambassadors spearhead national government relations, policy recommendations, and public advocacy efforts. They act as the principal point of contact between IYCGE and relevant governmental bodies, institutions, and stakeholders, translating research findings into actionable recommendations and advancing informed engagement on gender equality at the national level.

The IYCGE convenes monthly conferences during which ambassadors present their research findings, outline the progress and initiatives undertaken by their national teams, and report on developments in their respective countries. During these sessions, ambassadors articulate challenges, highlight advancements, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to the council.
Ambassadors serve as the collective voice of their region, ensuring that local realities, lived experiences, and national efforts inform the council’s work.
What are the requirements to be an Ambassador?
To be eligible for the role of Ambassador, candidates must be youth leaders with a demonstrated interest in advocating for gender equality and advancing inclusive, evidence-based policy. Applicants should show a clear commitment to gender-focused work and a willingness to represent their country on an international platform.
Ambassadors must have prior experience in research, which may include academic publishing, research conducted for universities or institutions, policy analysis, or postgraduate-level research, including work undertaken while pursuing or having completed a master’s degree. This experience should reflect strong analytical skills, familiarity with research methodologies, and the ability to translate findings into policy-relevant insights.

Candidates must be fluent in the official language(s) of their country, as well as English, with strong proficiency in both spoken and written communication. Ambassadors are expected to engage in international discussions, present research findings, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Applicants should also have a background in leadership and team coordination, with experience guiding or managing groups in academic, organizational, or advocacy settings. The role requires the ability to motivate teams, oversee collaborative projects, and ensure accountability within national teams of fellows.

In addition, ambassadors should have prior experience in public advocacy, public speaking, or stakeholder engagement, as the position involves acting as a public representative of IYCGE. Professionalism, diplomacy, and the ability to engage constructively with government officials, civil society actors, and the public are essential.
Ambassadors are expected to demonstrate strong organizational skills, ethical judgment, and a capacity to balance national responsibilities with participation in monthly international conferences and ongoing council activities.
How do I become an Ambassador?
Ambassador onboarding takes place through annual selection cycles. Each year, IYCGE opens applications for countries currently represented within the council, allowing eligible candidates to apply through the official recruitment process.

In cases where a country does not yet have representation within IYCGE, interested individuals may submit a request for an application by emailing admin@iycge.org. Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis and are subject to the council’s representation needs and capacity.

When an application cycle is open, prospective ambassadors are required to complete a multi-stage selection process. This includes a written component designed to assess research experience, policy understanding, and alignment with IYCGE’s mission, as well as a spoken component evaluating communication skills and leadership capacity.

Shortlisted candidates will then participate in an interview, which serves to further assess suitability for the role, regional representation, and readiness to act as a national and international representative of the council.

The next ambassador application cycle will open in November 2026.
