Our Story
The International Youth Council on Gender Equality (IYCGE) was founded in 2025 with a bold vision: to amplify the voices of youth in global decision-making spaces, aligning with the mission of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Gender Equality. Recognizing the urgent need for youth-led advocacy on gender issues, a group of experienced and passionate young leaders came together to establish the council’s Executive Board, laying the foundation for a dynamic, action-oriented network.
Since its founding, the IYCGE has expanded beyond its initial vision, building connections with non-profits, youth organizations, and advocacy groups around the world. Today, the council represents thousands of young people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and regions, united by a shared commitment to advancing gender equality and social justice. This global network empowers youth to engage in meaningful dialogue, shape policies, and participate in initiatives that drive tangible change in their communities and beyond.
The work of the IYCGE is guided by the principles of inclusivity, collaboration, and impact. Every project, campaign, and partnership is designed to elevate youth perspectives, promote intersectional understanding, and foster equitable opportunities for all. From advocacy and research to education and community engagement, the council serves as a platform for young leaders to contribute to a more just and equitable world.
Organizational Framework of the International Youth Council on Gender Equality (IYCGE)
Through a nuanced and flexible organizational framework, the International Youth Council on Gender Equality (IYCGE) supports global efforts in research, advocacy, education, and leadership development.
At the head of the organization is the Chairperson, who sets organizational priorities and oversees the overall strategic direction and progress of the Council.
Working directly under the Executive Chairperson is the Office of the Chairperson, which includes a team of Specialists. Specialists support the Chairperson in areas such as administration, partnerships, diplomacy, and operational coordination. With expertise in distinct disciplines, they help meet the evolving demands of a global organization.
The Executive Chairperson is further supported by Directors, who oversee key organizational portfolios and initiatives. Directors contribute to strategic planning, governance, and the implementation of IYCGE’s mission across its various divisions.
Supervisors serve as a liaison between the Executive leadership and the Global Ambassadors. They oversee ambassadorial activity, ensure alignment with organizational standards, and support coordination across regions, initiatives, and educational programming.
The Main Council of IYCGE is composed of country representatives known as Ambassadors. Each Ambassador represents their respective country on a global scale, conducting research, piloting initiatives, and leading their National Teams in alignment with IYCGE’s mission and strategic priorities.
Each National Team consists of Fellows, who support the work of the Executive leadership and Ambassadors in areas such as research, governmental relations, and public advocacy. Fellows contribute to both national and international initiatives while developing subject-matter expertise.
Administrators play a critical role in operational and logistical coordination. With expertise in diverse disciplines, they manage internal processes, facilitate cross-departmental collaboration, and ensure the smooth execution of organizational programs and events.
Interns participate in structured IYCGE programs designed to provide comprehensive learning and leadership experiences. Interns engage in programmatic tracks that include educational workshops, project-based assignments, and mentorship opportunities, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to IYCGE’s global initiatives.
In addition, IYCGE maintains a Board of Advisors, composed of distinguished professionals across various fields. Advisors provide strategic guidance and counsel to the Executive Chairperson, supporting long-term vision, governance, and institutional growth.
IYCGE also offers opportunities to participate in Specialized Task Forces and Continental Councils, where individuals may earn leadership titles by heading region-specific councils or task-oriented initiatives.
