Becoming a Global Advocate: Foundations of International Human
Rights & Gender Equality

What is Becoming a Global Advocate?

IYCGE’s foundational certification program is designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge, perspectives, and skills needed to understand global human rights challenges and engage in meaningful advocacy. Through a combination of educational sessions, interactive discussions, and a final advocacy project, participants will explore the foundations of international human rights, gender inequalities, and the role of advocates in creating social change.

The program consists of:

1. Introductory Session: Understanding Advocacy & Global Inequalities
Participants will be introduced to the purpose of advocacy, the role of advocates, and the importance of addressing human rights and gender inequalities at local, national, and international levels. This session will establish the foundation of the program by exploring what it means to become a global advocate.

2. Educational Lecture: Foundations of International Human Rights & Gender Equality
This lecture will provide participants with an overview of international human rights principles, major frameworks, and the ongoing challenges surrounding gender inequality. Participants will examine key concepts, historical developments, and current global issues affecting equality and human dignity.
There will be a mandatory quiz at the end of the lecture worth 20 marks. Participants must achieve 50% of higher to be certified.

3. Interactive Workshop Session
Through guided discussions, activities, analysis, and practical exercises, participants will learn how advocacy moves from awareness into action. The workshop will focus on identifying issues, developing advocacy strategies, communicating effectively, and understanding how individuals can contribute to meaningful change.

4. Advocacy Project: Applying Knowledge Through Action
Participants will complete a final advocacy project demonstrating their understanding of the program. Projects may include creating an advocacy video, writing a research report, developing a campaign proposal, or producing another form of educational advocacy content. This project allows participants to transform their learning into a tangible contribution toward awareness and action.

Additional Optional Certification Components:

Reflection & Advocacy Statement
Participants submit a personal reflection outlining what they learned, how their understanding of human rights and gender equality developed, and how they plan to continue their advocacy journey.​

​

Personal Advocacy Development Meeting
Participants will have the opportunity to meet with IYCGE executives for a personalized discussion focused on advocacy growth, career development, and future opportunities. This session will provide guidance on building an advocacy pathway, exploring leadership opportunities, strengthening professional skills, and receiving feedback on how participants can continue developing as global advocates.

Program Capacity & Timeline

​

The Becoming a Global Advocate: Foundations of International Human Rights & Gender Equality certification program will have a limited capacity of 100 participants to ensure an engaging, interactive, and meaningful learning experience for all attendees. This allows participants to actively participate in discussions, workshops, and personalized development opportunities throughout the program.

​

The program will officially begin in mid-July, with sessions taking place throughout the summer. Participants will engage in a structured learning experience combining educational sessions, interactive workshops, advocacy development, and a final project designed to apply their knowledge into action.
